The Centre Culturel Africain du Maroc in Collaborations with AYA Held A Youth Forum on Migration, The SDGs and The Global Compact for Migration

In order to achieve a unified voice of youth in advocacy and policy during the implementation, follow-up, and review of the Global Compact For Migration; the African Youth Architects ( AYA) in partnership with the Centre Culturel Africain du Maroc ( CCA Maroc), over the week held a Youth Forum on Migration for 500+ African youth migrants presently living in Morocco, and hoping to proceed to Spain. The Forum was  entirely sponsored by SAMAGEC and the aim of the Forum is to build the capacities of the migrants and to make them benefit from a newly established project that will support them to be independent and establish their own businesses.

The Forum was attended by the Founder and Ag. Executive Chairperson of the AYA, Ms. Fatou Hydra and the Chairman of the Board of Directors of AYA, Mr. Zama Joel. The AYA donated some new clothes and food items to the migrants and thereafter built their capacities through arts and culture. We must first agree that a legal migrant is not an illegal migrant, and an asylum seeker deserves international protection. If you don't want the African youths to go through the Backway, give them what will make them stay. The African Youth Architects (AYA) is an African movement of youths who are passionate about the world refugee crises and youth migration. We aim among other things to promote youth employment and employment creation for displaced people, the homeless, refugees, etc. Our target is the youth because we are the present and we are the future,  therefore, any society that neglects our voices, will be left without a future. AYA has conducted creative writing training, entrepreneurship and small business orientation for the 500 youths at the Forum in Morocco this week.

In the last decades, Libya and Morocco have seen explosions of growth in youth migration--mostly in West Africa as an affluent area with a high youth density and demography. Our target is to provide the youth with a Kickstart grant in order to implement their programmes and achieve their dreams in their shores. West Africa still remains a concern with the high migration flow.  If not all, most of the aforementioned youths seriously need financial support, partnership and training. We trained them to learn new skills and then partner with us to implement the aims and objectives of AYA. The knowledge that they've gained from our program will help them to unearth creative talents to tap the needed resources for their well-being and development.

The AYA provided them with training materials to be able to implement their projects initiated and supported by the Centre Culturel Africain du Maroc ( CCA Maroc.)

Speaking at the event, the Ag. Executive Chairperson of AYA, Ms. Fatou Hydra said: " To be a legitimate and an authentic voice for African youths and their organizations capable of representing young people worldwide on the continent of Africa, to lead the development of their nations; we'll leave no stone unturned as far as youth migration is concern. We can be of great support to them by giving them our experience as some of us are authors, migration activists, youth activists, teachers, health workers,  scholars, etc. I and my team, have had more than 10 years + experience in education, leadership,  creative writing and youth work.  We stand for welcoming folks from all backgrounds and beliefs into our organization and continually evaluate placements to ensure they align with our values. Citing from the Holy books, about refugee history; "An angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream, saying, Arise, take the young child and his mother, flee to Egypt, and stay there until I bring you word; for Herod will seek the young child to destroy him.”  This quotation from the Bible should be enough to tell us that migrants and refugees are human beings like us and have special needs," she ended.

AYA agrees that it is amazing how impacting someone can be on another person's life and how they can help shape their core ideals, beliefs, and values! A great example of the power of influence starts within us by sharing what we have with others. There will always be someone who will need whatever you've no matter how small it is. In addition to the speakers at the Forum, Mr. Christian Adda the Co-Founder and Director General at the Centre Culturel Africain du Maroc ( CCA Maroc) while delivering his guest-speaker's address said:

" If you treat people to a vision of themselves, if you apparently overrate them, you make them become what they are capable of becoming. The mediocre leader tells. The good leader explains. The superior leader demonstrates. The great leader inspires. We organize this Forum to be able to use arts and culture to positively influence the migrants to contribute to the development of Africa, and to use the event as a means of being able to discuss the situation of youth migration and vulnerability in Africa. We are glad to partner with the AYA who are youths themselves advocating for a positive attitudinal change in Africa," he ended.

The AYA stands with the United Nations 17 Sustainable Development Goals to guide the African  youths on the role of public, non-profit, for-profit, and voluntary sectors in global development. We champion the identified 17 goals and 169 targets, which was ratified at the September 25-27 2015 United Nations summit.
